The most obvious is Tarot Card II The High Priestess; According to Waite, she sits between the pillars ‘Boaz’ and ‘Jachin’ that belong to ‘the Mystical Temple’. But what exactly is this Mystical Temple? And where does the symbolism come from? Did the temple really exist? The Order of the Knights Templar or Order of the Templar (Order of the Poor Knights of Christ and the Temple of Solomon) (Latin: Pauperes commilitones Christi Templique Solomonici) was a Christian crusader order that waged a Holy War against the Muslims in the Holy Land at the time of the Crusades. The order was founded in 1118 by Hugh of Payns (1070 – 1136).
The order amassed an enormous amount of power and wealth and through their contacts in the Orient ensured cultural cross-pollination in terms of Religion, Philosophy and Science. Knights Templar became also known as the “inventors” of banking.
On October 13, 1307 (Friday the 13th), almost all members of the order were arrested by order of King Philip IV and condemned to be burned at the stake. There are many myths about the order and the possible survivors who would have continued the secret society.
