In reply to Sarah. Hi Sarah, thank you so much for your reply! Although tarot cards can be interpreted in many different ways—depending on the situation, the question, or the position—I believe the origin of this card points to the balance between giving and receiving. On a deeper level, it’s about the encouragement to shift your attention between the unconscious (the man in the blue robe) and the conscious (the man in the yellow robe). It’s a process unfolding within yourself, not necessarily from the outside. But you make a very good point when it comes to the more mundane meaning: do you give from the heart, or do you give only because it’s “expected”?

I think it’s the rich man’s business card. This illustrates that this ” charity” may not be sincere. The rich man isn’t giving to make a difference, it’s all about him. He’s out of touch with their suffering or doesn’t really care.

I really enjoyed this explanation and expose of the yods. Being new to the Tarot I was looking at the Ace of Swords and wondered what the yods meant, this makes me look at the card with new perspectives now when I come across this card.

What a great post! Thank you for sharing! I agree with you. I don’t think that the Seven of Cups should only be considered from a negative point of view.
